A fire of unknown origin ravaged a two-storey wooden house at Bagotville, West Bank Demerara on Thursday morning leaving four homeless.
Vanessa Lewis and her two children occupied the bottom flat while Andre Evans lived in the upper flat of the Lot 149 Bagotville house.
Reports are that Lewis’ 10-year-old daughter was home alone when she noticed smoke coming from the house. The child subsequently ran into yard screaming for help.
Lewis said on Thursday evening that the house did not have electricity and she was “not sure” what might have started the fire. The distressed woman said she was informed of the fire sometime after 12 pm but is not sure exactly when it started.
“I was at the hospital when I get the call that my house burn down…I lef’ trembling,” Lewis said. “All I can do now is keep faith because we lost everything. Is only the clothes we wearing we got lef’.”
All of the woman’s belongings were destroyed during the blaze.
