Sunil Singh, a 31-year-old Herstelling, East Bank Demerara man, was stabbed in the vicinity of his heart last evening after he attempted to solve a family dispute.
The man was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH) shortly before 8 pm and immediately carted off for emergency surgery. Singh remained in theatre up to press time last night.
Reports are that the man went to the home of his parents-in-law, who live in the same area, to deliver “something”. Singh, a relative said, was talking his father-in-law when the man’s assailant approached.
Singh’s assailant, the relative reported, had attempted to hit the father-in-law. The man intervened and was hit to the head then stabbed to the left side chest with a broken bottle.
“He was at his father-in-law house talking to him when (the assailant) come and try to hit the big man,” the relative explained. “He [Singh] told the (assailant) not to hit the big man.”
The assailant reportedly became annoyed at being reprimanded for his behaviour and subsequently attacked Singh.
“We’re not sure how he is at the moment,” the relative said. “All we know is that he is in surgery…all he was trying to do was avoid his father-in-law from getting hit”.
