-to battle Uprising for top honours
A Brandon Joseph double for the Fruta Conquerors was just what the doctor ordered to get his team into the final of the Georgetown Football Association (GFA) Coca Cola Under-15 Competition, when they defeated Santos at the Tucville Playfield yesterday.
The opening match of the double-header saw Conquerors outdoing Santos 3-1 in a come-from-behind victory, while Uprising sank Renaissance 2 – 0 in the feature match-up.
This now sets up the final showdown between Con-querors and Uprising at the Tucville Playfield on May 10, while Santos and Renaissance will go head to head in the third-place playoff prior to the final.
Conquerors played better football all round in their encounter and had more shots at goal than their opponents, thus causing them to be successful in the long run.
Santos got an opportunity in the 24th minute and capitalized on it to move up 1 – 0 then the dynamic Pernel Schultz found the equalizer for Conquerors in the 43rd minute.
Joseph then came into play and recorded his first goal in the 55th minute. He then pushed on to fire the second seven minutes later, which gave his team a comfortable two-goal lead that they defended to the final whistle.
In the Uprising/ Renai-ssance clash it was clear that Uprising had the bigger and more skilful players and capitalized on it. They came out attacking and were soon rewarded when Michael Campbell got a terrific ball in the opposition’s area and made the most of it in the fifth minute.
Renaissance who lacked ball control were not able to get close to the opposition goal to threaten them in any way but Uprising who had more skilful players pushed on and doubled their lead in the 69th minute compliments of a Kerron Heywood strike.
