“Classic El Dorado – Art in Motion” has had a successful showing in Jamaica, the Shape Custom Creations family has reported.
The collection, designed by Donna Ramsammy-James, was on stage early last month in Jamaica, ten days after it was launched in Guyana at a major Bishops’ High School Old Students Association (BHSOSA), fund-raising event, at Thirst Park.
The Jamaica showing was a combined fund-raising event which initiated in Toronto, in August 2008, at the BHS International reunion, when the BHS Jamaica Chapter was selected to host the next International reunion in 2011.
A preview of the main show was offered to the guests at the Jamaica Pegasus on April 3, when they dropped in for their customary Friday afternoon tea.
The next day, as word spread, guests who attended the show at the poolside of the SCR, Mona Campus, were not disappointed. Set against the backdrop of the Blue Mountains, with a vivid and well-coordinated display of style and colour, the largely Jamaican audience was enthralled by the presentation.
It was a spectacular show which left the over 200 persons, including Prof Nigel Harris, Vice Chancellor of University of the West Indies, abuzz for some time afterwards.
Comments from the audience included “What colour!”, “Could not wait to see the next piece”, “Did not want it to end”, “Beautiful clothes, beautiful models”.
After the two shows, the Shape team was able to experience the beauty of Jamaica, the richness of its culture, the warmth of its hospitality and the varied entertainment on offer. The team visited the Bob Marley Museum, partied at Mas Camp, chilled on the beach at Doctors Cove in Montego Bay and, the icing on the cake, had an opportunity to meet Olympic Champion Usain Bolt.
The 15-member team included Damon Hutchinson, Gina Trotz from the BHS Florida Chapter and Gillian Scott. Guyanese/Jamaican display team members were Maya WIlkinson, Darielle Hopkinson and Anya Mollison, who easily integrated with the Shape team and Kaiel Eytle, who coordinated the technical aspects of the production.
Accommodation was provided by the Jamaica Pegasus. Appearances on talk shows on TVJ and CVM as well as an exceptional photo spread in the Observer helped to gain the team celebrity status.
The cost of airfares for the trip was met by the Bishops’ High School Old Students Association, Guyana, Shape Custom Creations and Caribbean Airlines.
