Mary McDonald emerged the overall winner at the horticultural show held on March 28 and 29 at the Umana Yana, Kingston, Georgetown.
McDonald participated in ten of 34 classes in which she placed first, second or third. She outshone her competitors in the Republic Bank-sponsored class 14 which featured any croton in a pot or container. Here she copped the first, second and third places. McDonald also had outstanding performances in classes 4B and 5B with a vase containing a single stem of hibiscus bloom and a vase containing a single stem of mussaenda bloom, respectively. In both these classes she won the first and second places.
First, second and third places were recognised in all 34 classes. Olivia won best show in the class 12 category which was sponsored by Farfan and Mendes Limited. This category depicted foliage plants in a container, excluding ferns and crotons.
Milisa Sewak and Jill Persaud took the first and second places respectively in class one, which was sponsored by Mary McDonald. This group depicted a vase containing a single stem of any perennial cut flower except a rose, which had not been taken from a tree or shrub.
The Jean Harding-sponsored class two, exhibiting a vase containing a single rose bloom saw outstanding performances by K. Rahaman and Kevin Harbhajan whose pieces won first and second places respectively.
Class 23 saw Tarana Kadirova walking away with the first, second and third places.
