Fruta Conquerors’ Manessah Primo produced a terrific double to lead his team to victory when action in the Georgetown Football Association (GFA) Cellink Plus Premier League continued on Friday at the Tucville Playfield.
The homesters inflicted a 3–0 beating on the Georgetown Football Club (GFC) in the curtain-raiser of a double header which saw the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) getting past Pele 1–0 in the feature encounter.
Conquerors established their lead by constructing better passes and playing their balls wide on the flanks which gave them more space and time to accurately hit team-mates at the goal mouth.
Ball possession was almost equally controlled but it was evident that Conquerors had better chances which in turn gave them their first goal in the 43rd minute which was also Primo’s first goal.
After the 15 minute break GFC managed to concede two more goals; the first came from Lennox Charles who was at the goal mouth along with his team-mates who invaded the GFC 18 yard box and doubled their lead in the 50th minute, while Primo made his presence felt after getting past the slacking GFC defence again to record his double in the 84th minute.
In the GDF/Pele showdown both teams came out gunning for first blood; Pele had few good runs but were unsuccessful due to incomplete passes, missed hits and loose ball handling.
However, it was GDF which struck first with a mighty blow from Eusi Griffith just on top of the 18 yard box. This grazed a defender but still had enough weight on it to get past Shemroy Arthur in the uprights in the 15th minute that left the game at 1–0 for the remainder.
Premier League action continues tonight with another double header: three-time champions Alpha ‘The Hammer’ United will be opposed by the Flamingo FC in the curtain-raiser which kicks off at 6pm.
Then 2008 runners up Sunburst Camptown will meet head to head with BK International Western Tigers in the feature match-up at 8pm.
