Some of the country’s top horses and breeders will be at Alness Village on the Corentyne as the Ryan Crawford Memorial Turf Club stages a massive one day meet today.
According to the organisers, all systems are in place for today’s meet and they have also received an overwhelming response from stables around the country.
It is expected that sparks will fly when the horses from the B, L, F and three-year-old classes take the track since these races will feature some fierce competition.
With $300,000 being up for the taking in the B and Lower class, the event which stars the likes of Miss Republic and Delmur Gold of the Elcock stables, along with Jumbo Joe and Annie’s Play Mate, will be the feature race of the day, covering a distance of 1,400 metres.
All racing enthusiasts and turfites are aware of the bitter rivalry which exists between Delmur Gold and Jumbo Joe, with the latter having had the upper hand, winning the last clash at the same venue.
The three year-old category will also go for the same distance but will have a winner’s purse of $200,000. La Bayamosa, Coconut Boy and Lady of My Dreams will be the horses to look for, since it is usually hard to predict a winner whenever they are all competing at the same time.
Alphabet and Face the Music will continue their enmity in the G and Lower class which will have $100,000 up for the winner and also goes over 1,400 metres.
Meanwhile, The Message will headline a strong field of horses in the F and Lower class as they cover a distance of 1300 metres with a first place prize of $120,000.
The other categories that will be contested are the I and Lower, J, K and Lower and the L class.
Banks DIH is the major sponsor of the event.
