The Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports nationwide inter-block football tournament moved to the East Bank community of Grove on Tuesday last and defending champs Grove South along with Craig and Grove North have all qualified for Sunday’s semi-finals.
Playing at the Grove Community Centre ground, Grove South walked away 3-2 winners over Samatta Point East, thanks to a double from Travis Jones and a lone strike from Shermon Doris. For the losers, Royston Adams and Claude Paul found the back of the net.
But in the opening game, Grove North sent Caneville packing by whipping them 3-1 with Tashawn Blackman scoring a double and Dominique Garnett putting in another. Caneville’s lone goal came off the boot of Benin Pelgrim.
In the final game of the day Deon Joseph netted twice to help Craig defeat Samatta Point West 3-1. Mark Jonhingoree scored the winner’s other goal while Marvin Blair netted the lone goal for Samatta Point West.
The competition will offer trophies and bragging rights to be called the best block in the community.
