The Rotary Club of Georgetown (RCG) in association with the Athletics Association of Guyana (AAG) and the Cavaliers Sports & Tour Club (CSTC) will stage a 10k race walk today around the inner circuit of the National Park commencing at 06:30 hrs.
Local race walking champion Rudolph Mitchell will be going all out to maintain his winning streak which is now at number 88, but he can expect a strong challenge from Jonathan Fagundes, Jeremy Cornelius and O’Neil Joseph.
Trophies and other prizes will be up for grabs in the male and female senior and junior categories as well as the veterans and differently-able participants, whilst president of the Guyana Olympic Association (GOA) K. Juman-Yassin, president of the AAG Colin Boyce and representatives of the RCG will be on hand to offer assistance.
Interested participants must be at the starting line at 06:00 hrs for registration this morning.
Meanwhile, the CSTC held its Arrival Day six laps race walk around the National Park where Mitchell chalked up his 88th victory.
Fagundes, Cornelius and Joseph finished behind Mitchell in that order while Maurice Fagundes defeated Andre Cain for the top position in the veterans’ category.
Prizes for the event were donated by Mr. Irfan Ali, Dr. Richard Van-West Charles, Go-Invest and Office of the President while the Guyana Beverage Company provided water for the participants during the course of the race.
