Malteenoes Sports Club (MSC), Everest Cricket Club and the Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) all recorded victories in the latest round of matches in the Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA)/ Cellink Plus sponsored first division two-day competition yesterday.
At the Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) ground, MSC defeated their neighbours Transport Sports Club (TSC) by 10 wickets, thanks to the bowling of Dennis Legay and Orin Forde, who ensured that their team chased a small target in their second turn at the wicket.
After compiling 300-7 declared in their first innings, MSC bowled out TSC who resumed on 55-7, for 177 despite Carl Rambharose’s 80 (10×4; 2×6) and Quacy Bremner 29 (4×4; 2×6) as national Under-19 fast bowler Seon Daniels (4-56), Quason Nedd (4-57) and Forde 2-19 led their team to first innings points.
Being asked to follow on 123 runs behind, TSC were bowled out for 169 with Oslyn Batson 50 (6×4; 1×6), Stephen Alves 28 (4×4), Bremner 27 (2×4; 2×6) and Wazeer Mohammed 25 (3×4) being the only batsmen to offer resistance to the bowling of Legay (5-35), Forde (3-20) and Daniels (2-48).
Needing to score 47 for victory, MSC reached their target without any casualties with discarded national opener Shemroy Barrington blazing the way with 36 decorated with six fours, whilst Delvan Mc Ewan contributed 5.
At Police Sports Club (PSC) ground, the home team suffered a 127-run defeat at the hands of Everest Cricket Club.
Resuming their first innings on 115-8 in reply to Everest’s 255-9, PSC were bowled out for 128 as Troy Gonsalves grabbed 8-43 for Everest who scored 166-6 declared in their second innings, with Avenash Dookie (62) and Ryan Rajmangal, 48, leading the way with the bat.
Needing to score 293 for a come-from-behind victory, PSC fared better in their second innings, as they were bowled out for 166, with Rawle Browne (51), Andre Stoll (39), Jason Heyliger (19) and Ricardo Devers (18) being the only batsmen to reach double figures.
Gonsalves returned to claim 6-53 to end with match figures of 14-96, while Chris Patadin took 2-34.
At the Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) ground, the home team defeated the Guyana Defence Force by an innings and 129 runs in their encounter.
Responding to GDF’s meagre first innings score of 62 all out, GCC who resumed on 291-6, reached 301-8 declared thanks to Jeetendra Sookdeo’s 112 and Yannick Grimes’ 91.
Batting a second time and trailing by 239 runs, the Army boys fared better but were still short as they were bowled out for 110. No other details were available for this encounter.
