PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad, CMC – Guyana’s Walter Moore scored an early goal for Caledonia AIA, but they went on to lose 2-3 to Joe Public as the Trinidad and Tobago Pro-League kicked off its 2009 season this past weekend.
Moore netted the new season’s first goal after just two minutes of play but Caledonia failed to hold the advantage and ex-champions Joe Public rallied for a fine win at Marvin Lee Stadium last Friday evening.
Making Joe Public pay for a defensive blunder soon after the start, Moore pounced and placed his shot past Alejandro Figueroa
Kerry Baptiste’s double strike in the seventh and 32nd minutes sent Joe Public up 2-1 before Akeil Guavarra made it 3-1 in the 72nd minute.
Keyon Edwards pulled a goal back for Caledonia in the 84th minute but Joe Public kept the one-goal advantage to the end.
In the second game of the evening, San Juan Jabloteh, with St Lucian standout Earl Jean as their new coach, rallied from a goal down to beat W Connection 2-1.
Andre Toussaint sent W Connection ahead in the seventh minute but Karlon Murray (43rd) and Atullah Guerra (51st) hit back and propelled Jabloteh to victory.
Jean is interim coach for Jabloteh after financial constraints prevented the club from retaining Englishman Terry Fenwick, their regular coach.
In other weekend games, St Ann Rangers drew 3-3 with Police, Ma Pau beat Tobago United 2-1 and Defence Force shot past FC South End 4-1.
