For the third consecutive year Uprising Football Club lifted the Under-15 trophy after defeating their rival Fruta Conquerors on each occasion in the Georgetown Football Association (GFA) organized tournament.
Uprising got past Conquerors 1–0 on penalties in the feature match up of double header, which had Santos being on the lucky side against Renaissance.
Uprising proved that they were superior and this was seen on Sunday when they held their composure under pressure to win the final encounter after being deadlocked at nil all at full time.
Both teams had numerous shots on goal during the encounter but because of miss hits and uncontrolled ball handling neither scored.
Led by the golden goal scored by Uprising’s captain and the Most Valuable Player (MVP) Kimba Braithwaite and the Best Goal Keeper of the tournament Devon Charles in the penalty shootout, Uprising managed to get into the winners circle and claim bragging rights for another year.
Meanwhile, Renaissance and Santos football clubs contested a nail-biting third place showdown but there had to be a winner and a loser.
The game pushed on from full time into a dreaded penalty shootout, where both teams successfully scored nine goals each. There was then the toss of a coin to decide the outcome of the game, which went in Santos’s favour; a tough way to lose for Renaissance after a hard-fought battle.
Renaissance’s Selwyn Williams with 13 goals was the highest goal scorer of the competition while Riddim Squad was adjudged as the Most Disciplined Team.
