A labourer of Number 72 Village, Corriverton will spend the next three years in jail after he admitted to charges of possession of arms and ammunition at the Springlands Court yesterday before Magistrate Krishendat Persaud.
Amar Muneer, 22, a labourer of Number 72 Village, Corriverton had in his possession one .38 revolver and six matching rounds that he and three accomplices reportedly used to rob Dutchman’s Restaurant & Bar at Corriverton at around 7:35 pm on Saturday.
His alleged accomplices, Robert ‘Lulu’ Rollins, 30, a labourer and John Lewis, 27, a canecutter, both of Albert Street, Kingston, Corriverton pleaded not guilty to the offence.
Muneer and the two men were also charged with five counts of robbery under arms. They were not required to plead to the indictable offence.
Another defendant, Romel ‘Black Sam’ Awad, 28 also of Albert Street, Kingston, Corriverton was charged along with the men for both offences. However he was not present at court and a warrant has been issued for his arrest.
Reports are that the defendants robbed the owner of Dutchman’s Bar; Chan Lalta of $40,000 cash, $72,000 in gold jewellery and a cellular phone.
They also reportedly robbed customers: Tijendra Singh, Mohamed Razack, Vikash Ramjewan and Krishendat Dat of $18,000 cash, gold and diamond jewellery, cellular phones and two car keys.
According to the facts of the case presented by Police Prosecutor, Sergeant Michael Grant, the customers were drinking at the bar when the defendants who were all masked entered with a gun and a cutlass.
They ordered everyone to lie on the floor and proceeded to rob them.
The prosecutor asked that bail be refused on the grounds of the nature and gravity of the offences. He said that if placed on bail it is likely that they would commit similar offences and would interfere with witnesses.
Grant further informed the magistrate that the police are “investigating matters of a similar nature against the defendants.” He said Rollins is presently facing charges at the court for two counts of robbery under arms while Muneer is before the court on a wounding charge. Both men allegedly committed the offences while on bail.
Shortly after the robbery police, who were on patrol responded promptly to a report of the robbery and arrested two of the men about 80 yards from the scene.
They were still wearing masks at the time of their arrest.
Based on further information police arrested a third bandit at Number 79 Village, Corriverton and are still looking for the fourth.
The men are scheduled to return to court on May 28 for police report.
