Dear Editor,
I found the article on Air Traffic Controller recruits very interesting (‘New air traffic control recruits raise eyebrows,’ SN 12.5.09). I would think that the smart thing to do would be to recruit graduates from the University of Guyana for such an essential position. The safety of travellers is all important. Recruiting University of Guyana graduates would ensure that applicants possess the basic skills needed to be successful in such a programme. Why is the Guyana Civil Aviation Authority not recruiting applicants from educational institutions such as UG, the technical institutes, etc?
It would be interesting to know how many original recruits started the programme, and what the scores of those admitted to the programme versus the scores of those rejected were.
Yours faithfully,
P Baker
