Nine farmers from the Linden community yesterday received a quantity of sweet pepper seedlings from the Linden Economic Advancement Programme (LEAP).
The initiative was another partnership venture with LEAP and the Region 10 Farmers Association (RFTA) to expand sweet pepper production in the region.
At a simple ceremony held at the Linden Business Centre, 4000 sweet pepper seedlings were handed over to the farmers who were also promised technical assistance and information through RFTA.
The seedlings were produced by Rambharrat’s nursery in Linden, a newly-developed commercial nursery supported by LEAP. The crop is expected to yield over 6000 lbs of sweet peppers within the next four months.
The Region 10 agriculture sector over the years has received substantial infrastructure and development support through LEAP.
LEAP’s intervention in agriculture includes construction of access roads, land clearing and surveying support to farmers, support of a demonstration farm to showcase the latest in farming technology and best practices, and extensive training and technical assistance.
