Dear Editor,
I am extremely saddened and angry to have read in your newspaper that Director of Sport Neil Kumar said he was satisfied with the showing of the female team at this year’s Inter-Guiana Games. How can anyone in his or her right senses be satisfied with a 13-0 defeat and a 7-0 defeat? What kind of madness has come over those who are entrusted with directing our sports. It shows us exactly what our sport administrators are satisfied with and why we are at the bottom of the table when it comes to certain sports. Would Mr Kumar have been equally satisfied if a female cricket team he had the duty of putting together had been bowled out for five in two separate matches? As a Guyanese I felt and still feel embarrassed by what could have been avoided with a little proper planning. First there was the way a team to represent this country was selected; second the margin of defeat; third the utterances of Mr Kumar; and fourth because we cannot change history and rub out the 13-0 and 7-0. I call on Mr Kumar to do the right thing and offer an apology to this nation for the shame he has brought upon it.
Yours faithfully,
Mark Arthur
