The Joint Services yesterday confiscated over 50 kilogrammes of cannabis sativa (marijuana) following a raid at Loo Lands on the Demerara River during a reconnaissance mission code named ‘Operation Consolidation’.
According to a release from the Government Information Agency (GINA), five areas were searched during the exercise and the patrol intercepted the illicit drug, which was concealed under cut branches, in an area close to a camp suspected of being used by persons involved in the cultivation of drugs.
GINA noted that the raid followed a number of recent ones at several areas including Sunday’s raid at Hararuni Creek in the Demerara River where the Joint Services destroyed 10,000 plants and 1500 seedlings.
Last Saturday, on another raid at Nabaclis and Golden Grove on the East Coast Demerara where five houses were searched, 10 kilogrammes of marijuana was netted from an abandoned house.
No one has been arrested in any of the raids, however, the Joint Services intend to continue similar operations to remove illicit drugs from off the streets, the release noted.
