A 22-year-old welder was yesterday remanded to prison when he appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court to answer the charge of robbery.
It is alleged that on March 15 at Georgetown, Patrick Simmons of 20 East La Penitence robbed Lorna Achee of one gold chain valued $250,000, property of the virtual complainant (VC). Simmons pleaded not guilty to the charge when it was read to him by the Acting Chief Magistrate.
According to the VC, the defendant is well known for committing robberies in the Charlestown area. Achee explained that, “this is the second time dis boy come in me yard and thief. De first time, he thief from de girl living upstairs an now he rob me. On de day in question My Worship he snatch de chain and me an he end up in a scuffle on de ground and de chain end up bursting and a piece lef in me hand. I know he fuh de past three years and duh is he regular job My Worship.”
When given a chance to respond, the defendant declined. Simmons was subsequently remanded to prison until May 25.
