Lara faces busy schedule on brief African trip

KAMPALA, Uganda, CMC – Organisers have unveiled a busy schedule for West Indies batting legend Brian Lara when he visits the country from June 6 to 13.

He will be welcomed to the East African nation by the High Commissioner of Trinidad & Tobago, State Minister for Sports Charles Bakkabulindi, and Uganda Cricket Association boss Dr. Kato Sebbaale, after which he will hold a news briefing at the airport before checking in at Serena Hotel in Kampala.

On the same day, Lara will pay courtesy calls to the Mayor of Kampala Hajji Nasser Ntege Sebaagala and the Kabaka of Buganda, His Majesty Ronald Muwenda Kimera Mutebi II.

He will wrap up the day with a brief tour of Kampala City.

Lara then travels to Jinja and interacts with students from the cricket-playing and meets with his countrymen living in Uganda before presiding over the awards ceremony of the Twenty20 Championship at Lugogo.

On June 8, he will meet President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, Minister of Foreign Affairs Sam Kuteesa, hold an interactive session with the national cricketers, and later attend a cultural presentation which will feature a number of local performers.

On June 9, the former West Indies captain will head to Western Uganda, before he heads to the neightbouring nation of Rwanda the next day to meet President Paul Kagame and some of his cabinet members before presiding over a Twenty20 match between a select Uganda XI and Rwanda.

He will wrap up the tour with a visit to SOS Villages Kakiri, a working lunch with UCA and a corporate fund-raising dinner to promote the game in Uganda.
