Dear Editor,
Please refer to a letter which appeared in your Stabroek News issue of Wednesday, May 13, 2009, captioned ‘Forty-foot containers stored on the parapets at Broad and Charles Streets.’ We must thank the writer for paying such keen interest in what can be considered an increasingly common practice among some business owners. Addressing the specific case raised in the letter, we wish to state the following:
(i) The concerned business owner was warned by the building inspector for that area to remove the obstructions.
(ii) The appropriate statutory notice was dispatched to the owner on May 13, 2009 instructing that the containers be removed from the reserve.
(iii) The owner was given until Monday, May 18, 2009 to remove the containers from the council’s reserve.
We would like to encourage citizens to continue to assist our effort by speaking out against all actions and practices that can affect the development of their local communities.
Yours faithfully,
Royston King
