Renaissance’s Jermayne Beckles and Sunburst Camptown’s Jason Williams both led their teams to victory after recording hat-tricks on the opening day of the second annual Georgetown Football Association (GFA) Courts Pee Wee Under-11 Competition at the Banks DIH Ground, Thirst Park yesterday.
Beckles’ performance rocketed Renaissance past Marian Academy (MA) 4–0 while Williams’ run contributed to the steamrolling of the Thomas United team who also lost 4–0.
Defending champions Fruta Conquerors got off to a poor start losing to Santos 2–0 and Uprising burnt Buxton United 3–0.
Williams recorded his first goal in the 17th minute which left the result 1–0 at half time; when play resumed he found himself in the zone and quickly netted two more goals in the 22nd and 24th minte respectively.
His captain supported with a goal five minutes later (29th) to build an unassailable lead for Camptown who defended it to the final whistle.
In the Renaissance/Marian Academy clash Beckles’s run lit up the first half as he recorded his first goal as early as the sixth minute, his second in the 13th and the final of his three goals the minute before the twenty-minute half concluded (19’).
Beckles was not the only Renaissance player to score; he received support from Keron Tasher who found the back of the net in the ninth minute.
Conquerors were given a 2–0 beating by Santos who came out attacking, found a few openings and made the most of it. They went ahead in the fifth minute compliments of a Kelsey Benjamin strike, and doubled their lead two minutes later when Selah Roger scored.
Uprising scored three goals against Buxton United, the first of the three coming from the boot of Travis Lyken who scored on the stroke of half time from a penalty kick.
Kwesi McKay’s and Saki Phillips’ 32nd and 35th minute goals put the icing on the cake as Uprising recorded their first three points in the round robin stage.
