ST JOHN’S, Antigua, CMC – Leeward Islands batsman Runako Morton has been called up to the West Indies squad for the pending NatWest One-Day Interna –
tional series against England.
The right-handed Morton will replace injured opener Dale Richards who returned home last Tuesday after having not sufficiently recovered from a shoulder niggle.
Morton has been rewarded for an outstanding season where he plundered 1010 runs to be one of three batsmen to crest the 1000-run mark in the extended tournament.
The 30-year old reached three figures on three occasions, including successive double centuries to become the first player to achieve the feat in the history of sponsored regional cricket.
Morton has not played for West Indies since last June against Australia and the call up will represent a lifeline in a flagging career.
He has stroked two centuries and nine half-centuries in 49 ODIs but his last four innings have yielded just 53 runs.
West Indies open the ODI series at Headingley Thursday before playing matches in Bristol on May 24 and the final game in Edgbaston two days later.
