The minibus driver involved in the accident that resulted in the death of 3-year-old Ariel Sahoye in February has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving and his licence suspended.
Andrew Cameron of 317 Zeelugt, EBE, is presently before the Vreed-en-Hoop Magistrate’s Court to answer the charge.
On February 9 at about 12:25 pm, Sahoye was crushed to death in front of her Tuschen Housing Scheme, East Bank Essequibo home after the minibus driven by Cameron ran over her. According to the police, the girl had been taken home from school in the minibus, which usually transports school children.
The police further stated that upon arrival at her residence, Sahoye was put off from the vehicle and “the driver then drove off, apparently not realizing that the child was crossing the road from in front of the vehicle. As a result she was struck down and died on the spot.” Following the incident, Cameron was taken into custody to assist with investigations.
Meanwhile, the police said that Cameron’s driver’s licence has been suspended pending the outcome of the matter.
