–Region Four REO
The Region Four Administration says it is fully prepared and systems are in place to avoid any major flooding in low-lying areas along the coast during the imminent rainy season.
In a press release Regional Executive Officer Shafdar Alli said the administration has already spent about 30% of its allocated sum to effect repairs and maintenance works to several mechanical drainage pumps within the region. He said too the maintenance of internal drains within the Craig Caledonia/Good Success, Buxton/Foulis, Unity/Vereeniging and Soesdyke/Te Huist Coverden neighbourhood democratic councils are moving apace.
According to the release over $110M from both the capital and current expenditure will be spent to upgrade drainage and irrigation structures in the agriculture sector this year. Some of the major projects include the construction of greenheart revetment at Cane Grove, Craig and Enmore together with the rehabilitation of canals at Supply and Beterverwagting east sideline.
Meanwhile, Alli said the 2009 work programme is progressing on schedule. Contracts have already been awarded and rehabilitation works have started on the Ogle Old Road, the road at Vryheid’s Lust north, the Buxton and Triumph pump stations, the Victoria and Buxton pump operator quarters and the Land Development Office.
