The long wait is over and the finals of the Demerara Cricket Board (DCB) organized German Restaurant/W&H Rambarran sponsored Under-19 Inter-association competition will be held today at the Lusignan Community Centre Ground.
Original finalists Georgetown have been disqualified from the tournament after being found guilty of playing an overage player in Carl Rambharose. Therefore East Coast who lost to Georgetown in their preliminary round match will now replace that association and face West Demerara.
When contacted, president of the DCB Bissoondial Singh told Stabroek Sport the Georgetown Cricket Association was asked to deal with the disciplinary action against Rambharose while his board would deal with their side of things.
Georgetown, who played unbeaten in the tournament which was halted to facilitate the running off of the Guyana Cricket Board/GTM Inter-county tournament, were highly favoured to cart off the top prize.
This now leaves East Coast, who made it to the final at the expense of Georgetown’s negligence, as highly favoured to topple their opponents in what can be termed a rematch. Their preliminary encounter was abandoned and West Demerara came away with a better net run rate.
The action gets underway at 09:30 hrs. Representatives of the DCB and the sponsors will be on hand to facilitate the distribution of prizes won during the tournament.
