The Georgetown Allstars (GTA) have taken a firm stand at the top of the leader board in the 2009 Georgetown Masters Football Association (GMFA) tourney after claiming yet another victory on Thursday evening at the Georgetown Football Club (GFC) ground.
Action continues this evening with only one match at the GFC ground as the tournament’s two top teams GTA and GFC go head to head from kick off time at 6:00pm.
GTA, now on 18 points from seven games which include six wins and a loss, lead GFC in second with 16 points, Santos third with 15 points and East Coast, Top Class and Pele who are all tied on 13 points each.
GTA claimed a victory on Thursday evening against East Coast when they whipped them 2 – 0 in the feature match of the double header that had GFC getting past East Bank 1 – 0 in the curtain raiser.
A goal in each half for GTA was enough to get past their opponents as Anthony Stanton’s first half goal gave GTA the lead before half time.
They then doubled their lead to relax their play, compliments of a strike from the tournament’s leading goal scorer Ron Austin. That goal became his 13th of the tournament while on his tail on the list of goal scorers is Santos’ Terrence Wills with 11 goals.
Rastafarian Patriots are in the middle of the leader board with 12 points with Thomas and East Bank following closely on 11 points each while Western Tigers (4), Carib (3), West Berbice (3) and West Bank (1) are at the bottom of the table.
