Camptown and Pele to clash tonight
By Kizan Brumell
Sunburst Camptown and Pele football clubs will collide this evening in a feature Premier League encounter which commences at 8pm at the Tucville Playfield as another Georgetown Football Association weekend concludes.
The Cellink Plus sponsored tournament will see homesters Fruta Conquerors opposing Flamingo Football Club (who are still hunting for their first Premier League victory) in the curtain raiser of the double header beginning at 6pm. Friday’s double header saw the Guyana Defence Force overpowering BK International Western Tigers 2 – 0 in the second encounter while Alpha ‘The Hammer’ United hammered Georgetown Football Club (GFC) by a three-goal margin. Alpha, as with all their Premier League matches this year took the lead by scoring in the early minutes of the first half after constantly attacking the opposition’s goal.
Philbert Moffat scored in the 23rd minute after finding an opening and capitalizing on it. Alpha proved to be the fitter and more composed team and added two more goals in regulation time with Quincy Madramotoo and Dwight Peters netting in the 73rd and 80th minutes.
In the GDF/Tigers encounter the army team showed that they were the superior team from the first whistle executing well constructed plays, precise passing and resolute defending which got them the ball on a regular basis causing them to dominate ball possession throughout the entire 90 minutes.
GDF pushed upfield in numbers in the opening minutes of the first half and created tension in the Tigers’ camp and were soon able to score when Stellon David netted in the 19th minute. They then extended their lead at the stroke of half time when the towering Devon Harris who was lurking near to the goal mouth, powered the ball into the back of the net.
