A 16-year-old Maruranau, Rupununi boy, who was discovered unconscious along a roadway on Friday, succumbed a day later.

Police, in a press statement yesterday, said they are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of Mark Edwards. The teen, according to them, died on Saturday at a health centre.

Investigations, police said, revealed that on Friday “Edwards was reportedly involved in an altercation with two men while they were consuming a locally made alcoholic drink”.

The young man was found unconscious shortly after on a roadway and taken to the health centre. Police did not indicate whether there were marks of violence on Edwards’ body.

A post-mortem examination is to be conducted shortly.
