When national race walking champion Rudolph Mitchell takes the road tomorrow morning, he will be looking to chalk up his 91st victory, even though he will be going up against some foreign competitors. The event in question is the Cavaliers Tour and Sports Club (CTSC) Independence Day race walk which will be held from the University of Guyana Turkeyen Campus and proceed along the Railway Embankment unto Sherriff Street for the finish at the National Cultural Centre from 0630hrs. Even though this is not the final event being held by the CTSC, much can be expected as Mitchell will be facing some stern challenges from other race walkers including the hard working Jonathan Fagundes, who is more known for his cycling and athletic ability. Walkers interested in competing in this event, are asked to be at the line for 0600hrs, while the coordinator of CTSC Ms Olga Harry is appealing to the business community and sport loving individuals to support this and their final event scheduled for 31st May, either by donating trophies, water or transportation.
The final event which is being held in collaboration with Guyana’s 43rd Independence Anniversary, will take place in the mining town of Linden, starting at the Bayroc Recreational Centre in Wisroc and proceeding to the Christiansburg Community Centre for the finish.
