William Walker started Saturday as the proud sponsor of the inaugural Oasis Café Stableford Golf tournament but at the end of the contest had emerged as one of the top prize winners after another intriguing day of golf at the Lusignan Golf Course.
With 29 golfers battling for top honours, a challenging 37 points was posted for Walker who played with a 20 handicap. However, he was edged into second position by the youthful Monnef Arjune who emerged winner with 38 points.
Arjune playing off a 13 handicap was consistent throughout the day and has sounded a warning to his competitors to things the come for the remainder of the season.
The third place was decided on a count back following a three-way tie by national ladies champion Christine Sukhram, Dr. Ram Singh and Albert Russell who all ended on 36 points. Russell was declared third after he performed better on the back nine.
Lakram Ramsundar copped the prize for Nearest to the Pin.
Jerome Khan, Captain of the Lusignan Golf Club (LGC) thanked Oasis Café for sponsoring the tournament.
Walker is remarks said the Golf Club is his oasis and he pledged to sponsor the event again next year.
Meanwhile, BK International will sponsor an Independence Day Medal Play tournament on Tuesday at the LGC.
Tee off is at 09:30 hours.
Prizes will be awarded to the top three players as well as Nearest to the Pin and best gross.
Managing Director of BK International Brian Tiwari is expected to attend and assist in the presentation of prizes.
