ST JOHN’S, Antigua, CMC – West Indies start a 10-day training camp in Barbados today in preparation for next month’s International Cricket Council’s Women’s World Twenty20 tournament in England. Fresh from their fifth place finish at the ICC Women’s World Cup in Australia in March, the West Indies squad will undergo a week and a half training camp from June 11-20.
“The team will be having net sessions, gym sessions, and fitness sessions under head coach Sherwin Campbell as they get ready for the inaugural Women’s World T20 event,” the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) said in a press release yesterday. The players are scheduled to leave for England on June 4 and will have two pre-tournament warm-up matches against Pakistan and Sri Lanka before their first tournament match on June 11.
The Windies girls are drawn in Group A alongside South Africa, Australia and New Zealand.
They open against South Africa on June 11 and face New Zealand two days later and Australia on June 14.
The management team alongside Campbell will be Patricia Greenidge as team manager, physiotherapist Jacqueline King-Mowatt, and fitness and conditioning co-ordinator Shannon Lashley.
