An East Canje resident is pleading with a senior police officer to repair her damaged fence and storeroom, which he collided with shortly after midnight on Saturday.
Nadira Needhee, of Lot 72 Sheet Anchor, told Stabroek News that she was asleep, when she heard a loud bang. She said she looked outside her home which is currently rehabilitated, and observed motor vehicle PLL 100, parked about 50 feet away from her residence.
According to Needhee, she and her husband Balchan Antharan, investigated and observed that a bus shed which was in front of their home was destroyed, along with their fence and storeroom which housed fishing equipment. She explained that her husband, a part-time fisherman, would ply his trade to supplement the income he earned as a pump attendant attached to the regional administration.
Needhee said that together with other residents they went towards the parked sports vehicle, where they saw the unconscious police officer, sitting in the driver’s seat with blood flowing from an injury to his head.
According to her, shortly thereafter, traffic ranks in uniform, along with other officers from the Central Police Station arrived and took their injured colleague to the New Amsterdam Hospital.
Stabroek News understands that the police officer is expected to be discharged from hospital today.
Needhee, further told this newspaper, that following the incident a sergeant visited her home, and advised her to take the matter to court, but she would prefer that the matter be resolved amicably.
