The Berbice Cricket Board (BCB) 2009 Tenelec Inc. first division 50-overs-a-side cricket competition continued last Sunday with five third round matches which saw newcomers Edinburgh continuing their good showing with another upset victory over Bermine despite Keon De Jesus’ 95.
After Bermine had slipped to 25-3, De Jesus who came in at number five rescued them with a brilliant 95 which was decorated with six fours and two sixes to help them recover to 239- 9 in their 50 overs. Edinburgh who had slipped to 116-5 in reply reached 243-7 in 47.2 overs, thanks to Shafeek Khan who struck 10 fours in his 73.
Upper Corentyne’s Deoprakash Ramdat struck 67 with eight fours and along with Romel Dowlat’s even 50 (4×4; 2×6), guided their team to 250-7 against Scottsburg United, who were then bowled out for 220 in 41 overs in reply.
National middle order batsman Assad Fudadin scored 55 (3×4; 1×6) to guide Rose Hall Town Windies Sports Bar (RHTWSB) to 205 against defending champion Albion Community Centre, who fell short by 60 runs in their reply, thanks to a fine spell of bowling from part-time medium pacer Renwick Batson who took 4-29.
Skeldon Community Centre’s Christopher Jaundoo was also amongst the runs, slamming 63 (7×4; 1×6) in a losing effort for his team in their match-up against Port Mourant.

At Edinburgh, the home team defeated Bermine by three wickets. Bermine losing the toss and sent in to bat first, made 239-9 in 50 overs with Keon De Jesus 95, Andrew Williams 33, Sean Devers 25 and Tremayne Smartt 15.
Fast bowler Zaheer Hussain (3-40), leg spinner Ravi Bridgelall (2-21) and left arm spinner Mark Sampson with 2-37 did the damage for Edinburgh who replied with 243-7 in 47.2 overs, with Shafeik Khan 73 and Ravi Bridgelall 47 leading the way against the bowling of Joemal La Fleur who took 2-49.
Scottsburg United suffered another defeat at the hands of Upper Corentyne in their reduced fixture which took place at the Number 70 ground
Upper Corentyne winning the toss and batting first reached 250-7 in their 45 overs, with Deoprakash Ramdat 67, Romel Dowlat 50, Somdat Singh and Bheem Singh 22 each against the bowling of Essequibo’s left arm spinner Robert Moore who took 3-26 and Junior Mc Calmont 2-32.
But Scottsburg found that target to be insurmountable as they were dismissed for 220 in 41 overs with only Peter Grimes who made 48 being the lone batsman to offer resistance to off spinner Bheem Singh (2-29) and fast bowler Chris Bollers who took 2-39.
At the Area “H” Ground, Rose Hall Town Windies Sports Bar beat Albion Community Centre by 60 runs.
Rose Hall Town Windies Sports Bar losing the toss and sent in to bat first made 205 all out in 49 overs with Assad Fudadin 55, Delbert Hicks 42 and Troy Matheson 17 being the principal scorers against the bowling of off spinner Narsingh Deonarine (3-23), Hemant Rabindradat (2-36) and left arm spinner Veerasammy Permaul who took 2-48.
In reply, Albion Community Centre were bowled out for 145 in 36 overs with Imran Khan 44, Permaul 28 and Shastri Persaud 19 leading the way against Renwick Batson (4-29), Andre Percival 2-26) and Troy Matheson 2-28.
At Skeldon, Port Mourant beat Skeldon Community Centre by 41 runs. Port Mourant won the toss and scored 212 in 44.5 overs with Shameer Khan 47, Poorendra Debidyal 28, Rajendra Bolo 27, and Devendra Thakurdeen 23 leading the way with the bat.
Clinton Pestano with 2-20 led the bowling for Skeldon who were bowled out for 181 in 40.1 overs, with Christopher Jaundoo 63 and Nirmal Khan 39 showing resistance to the bowling of Yougindra Harrinarine who took 4-31 and off spinner Niroj Singh who supported with 2-27.
In the final game played at the Blairmont Community Centre Ground, Police succeeded in their bid to arrest the home team when they defeated them by 39 runs.
Police losing the toss and being asked to take first strike made 172 in37 overs with Don Farley 32 and Jerry Heyliger 24 being the top batsmen against the bowling of Nedesh Basdeo who took 4-21, Ramesh Boodram 2-22 and Karamdat Bissoondial 2-48.
Blairmont Community Centre then fared worse than their opponents and were bowled out for 143 in 39 overs, with Christopher Kewley (44) and Karamdat Bissoondial 36 leading the way against the bowling of Michael Newland 3-21 and Andel Doris who took 2-20.
The competition which is in its second year will continue this weekend.
