The second annual Enterprise Busta Sports Club (EBSC) 20/20 cricket festival was launched yesterday at a simple ceremony held in the boardroom of the Guyana Beverage Company (GBC), the distributors of Busta products locally.
In brief remarks, general manager of GBC, Robert Selman, congratulated the club for the efficient way in which they ran off the inaugural tournament last year and urged them to go one step further in this year’s tournament, which is set for July 4-6 at the Enterprise Community Centre Ground.
“The running off of last year’s tournament was handled efficiently. It was a job well done and as I have always stated in the past, we at the GBC will always be looking to give back to the sporting community, as we aim to keep the youths off the streets.”
President of the EBSC Karran Ramdhoon thanked the sponsors for their generosity and gave the assurance that this year’s tournament will be far better than last year’s inaugural event.
The tournament is being sponsored to the tune of $700,000 and $350,000 from this will be used for the festival.
The winning team will pocket $50,000 and a trophy while the runner-up would receive a trophy and $25,000. The man of the match, best bowler and batsman and the batsman hitting the biggest six will each pocket $5,000.
Eight teams will contest this year’s tournament with Clonbrook, Unity, Better Hope, Shivala Academy, Buxton, Enterprise and Enmore all looking to take the title from defending champions Lusignan Sports Club. The finals will be played under lights.
