A fisherman was shot in his back late Wednesday night at Number 69 Village, Corentyne while walking home.

Police said that Mohamed Alli, 48, and his nephew were walking along an access road towards their home when they heard an explosion and Alli was hit to his lower back.

The incident occurred at 11:30 pm on Wednesday.

He was taken for medical attention and was admitted to the New Amsterdam Hospital. Police investigations are continuing.
