– hooded men seen in yard
A Friendship, East Bank Demerara businessman, who was shot during a robbery at his home earlier this month, is worried about his safety and that of his family.
Oudit Narine, a 60–year-old trucker, told Stabroek News yesterday that around 12.30 am yesterday, he got up to check his yard after hearing his dog barking incessantly. Looking through a window at the front of his house to see what the commotion was about, the man said, he noticed two men wearing hoods scaling his fence, heading out of his yard. He said since his home was robbed on May Day, “strange vehicles have been stopping” in front of his home on several occasions during evening hours. The man’s wife, with a fearful expression on her face, said that she has had many sleepless nights since the robbery as she is worried about the safety of her family which includes two children and a granddaughter. She said at the moment she feels insecure in her own home.
Her husband told this newspaper that even though the police have not arrested anyone following the robbery, he is confident that the perpetrators of the brazen attack will be brought to justice.
While he has an idea as to who may have been behind the attack on his home, the man said he will be leaving it up to the police to deal with the matter since it was reported to the Grove and Brickdam police stations and he has since been in contact with officers of both police stations.
During the attack on his home earlier this month, Narine sustained a gun shot wound to the right side of his abdomen above his hip, during a struggle with one of three intruders who had forced their way in. Two of the men reportedly assaulted the other members of his family including a three-year-old girl before escaping with a quantity of jewellery worth approximately $2.8M. The man had recalled hearing one of the men conversing with someone on a mobile phone, relaying the completion of the robbery.
Persons in the area had recalled seeing the men entering a car, which was parked close to a nearby koker, following the robbery and heading in the direction of Georgetown. The car was also noticed passing Narine’s home prior to the attack.
