National wicketkeeper/batsman Derwin Christian scored a brilliant century for Demerara Cricket Club to place them in a comfortable position against Everest yesterday on day two of the Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA), Guyana Telephone and Telegraph (GT&T) Cellink Plus First-Division cricket competition.
Sent in to bat first, host Everest were out for 175. Chris Pattadin and Sauid Drepaul opened, both stroking 37, while Chanderpaul Hemraj made 22 and Mohan Ramdeen 20.
Leading the bowling attack for DCC was Omesh Danram 3-28. National all-rounder Christopher Barnwell picked up 2-23 and Dino Choo-wee-nam 2-13.
DCC in reply were 144-2 with Christian leading the way with his innings of 109. Drepaul returned with the ball to take 2-48.
Meanwhile over at the Malteenos Sports Club ground, the Police arrested the host and were at the crease for the second time after bowling them out for 140. Batting first, the officers were all out for 151 runs – Jason Heyliger 65, Reginald Rodriques 24 and Rawle Browne 23 leading the way.
During the first innings, Damion VanTull grabbed 4-43 and Orin Forde picked up 2-18 for Malteenos, but they did not do so well with the bat. Delvon McEwen (34), Forde (27) and national batsman Shemroy Barrington 21 were the prime scorers for Malteenos who found themselves in a tight postion heading into today’s second innings.
Police will begin the day’s play on five without loss.
