Three armed robbers attacked a businessman and his son on Saturday night on the East Coast of Demerara.
A release from the Police Public Relations Office said yesterday that two of the bandits entered a business place, whose location was not given, and held a businessman and his son at gunpoint while they took away the son’s personal jewellery.
A scuffle then ensued between the businessman and one of the robbers, during the course of which the businessman managed to wrest the firearm from his assailant.
The two robbers then ran away, along with their companion who had remained on the roadway.
The police said that an alarm was raised and nearby residents chased the bandits, who nevertheless escaped.
The gun was handed over to the police and was found to be a .38 Taurus with six matching rounds.
