St Rose’s High and Marian Academy were the winners last week when the Guyana Bank for Trade and Industry (GBTI) concluded another round of its Inter-Secondary School Im-promptu Speaking competition.
In match one, St Rose’s High emerged victorious with 643 points over St John’s College which scored 554 points. In the second match, Marian Academy with 691 points defeated Central High School which scored 619 points.
The topics selected by St Rose’s were: ‘Of the five senses my favourite is …’; ‘Government should establish basic and enforceable rights for animals’ and ‘Our use for leisure time’. St John’s topics were: ‘If there was one thing I could change about myself, it would be…’; ‘Our rainforest should be protected’ and ‘How is volunteering to you?’
Meanwhile, Marian Academy went with the topics: ‘Why do I like computers?’ ‘Be proud of your ethnic background’ and ‘What can be done to stop the road carnage’. Central High’s topics were: ‘Computers in the classroom’; ‘If I were a teacher for a day’, I would…’ and ‘A period I would have loved to live through is…’.
Judges for the matches were Sheik Sadiq, Bonita Hunter and Bernadette Persaud.
The second round of the competition, according to the GBTI press release, continues today with School of the Nations coming up against Richard Ishmael Secondary in match one. In the second match, Queen’s College will face St Stanislaus College.
