Two security guards who allegedly dealt another man several blows about his body resulting in him being hospitalized were both remanded to prison on Monday when they appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson.
Sixty-three-year-old Alwin Agard of Uitvlugt, Estate Road, West Coast Demerara, and Malcolm Johnson, 34, of Enmore, East Coast Demerara were not required to plead to the indictable charge of inflicting grievous bodily harm on a man when they appeared at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.
It is alleged that on May 25, at Unamco, Upper Berbice River, Agard and Johnson unlawfully and maliciously inflicted grievous bodily harm on Joseph Gomes.
The prosecution stated that Gomes was currently hospitalized since the two men had dealt him several blows to his head and body with a piece of wood resulting in him sustaining injuries.
However, Johnson stated that “he (Gomes) accuse me ah stealing and he first start de physical stuff and I hit back.”
Agard then stated, “I wish to say that I am guilty.”
The magistrate subsequently ordered that both Agard and Johnson be remanded to prison and that they return to court on June 5.
