BRIDGETOWN, Barbados, CMC – Unbeaten Barbadian cruiserweight boxer Shawn “The Sniper” Cox will defend his Caribbean Boxing Federation (CABOFE) title later this month against the rising Guyanese prospect Cleveland Fraser.
Cox will put his 8-0 record and CABOFE 200-pound belt on the line against Fraser at Copper Sands in St Lawrence Gap, just outside the city, on June 28.
The clash will be one of two title fights on the card as the undefeated Barbadian Miguel “Hands of Stone” Antoine will defend his CABOFE light welterweight crown against the Guyanese Revlon Lake.
Promoter Sam Layne declared at a press conference Wednesday that the fight card is “one of the best” he has assembled, containing bouts the public has demanded.
Layne manages Cox and Antoine and expects them to have their stiffest challenges since turning pro.
“I think this is going to be their toughest fights to date,” Layne told CMC Sport.
Before turning pro in September 2007, Cox had logged an outstanding amateur career that included seven Caribbean Amateur Boxing Association (CABA) championship gold medals, Commonwealth Champion-ship gold, and Central American and Caribbean (CAC) Games gold, plus an Olympic appearance in Sydney, 2000.
The hard-hitting Cox has scored five first-round knockouts and has never gone beyond two rounds in his brief pro career.
Fraser has five wins against one loss in his pro career.
“(Cleveland) Fraser has knocked out all his opponents in Barbados and Cox has also won all his fights by knockout. This is a fight the public has been asking for,” Layne said.
Antoine is 10-0 with six knockouts and will be making the first defence of the CABOFE belt he won in June last year over Trinidadian Learie Bruce.
Lake’s record is five wins against two losses and two draws.
“Lake has three consecutive victories and this (bout with Antoine) is another fight that the public has been asking for,” Layne said.
The card is also expected to feature Jamaican Rudolph “The Cutting Edge” Hedge and Barbadian Ricardo “Brown Bomber” Blackman against opponents to be announced.
