Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson on Monday granted $40,000 bail each to two men accused of diverting electricity to their homes from a Guyana Power and Light pole.
Frank Kowlessar, 29, of 190 Lodge, Housing Scheme and Askorid Sundack, 29, of Berbice, both pleaded not guilty to the charge of fraudulent diversion of electricity when they appeared in the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court to answer to the charge.
The men, who are not the owner of meters, denied the incident which allegedly occurred on May 29.
The men’s attorney Adrian Thompson applied for bail on the grounds that they were not the owners of the home that the power was allegedly being sourced to. He told the court that Kowlessar’s uncle had given him permission to stay at the property with his three children and that many other persons had been at home when his client was arrested for the offence.
