Police have no information regarding the identity of the person who shot Gavin Paul, the chain snatcher who subsequently died on Saturday, Crime Chief Seelall Persaud has said.
However, he said, investigations are continuing. He said the post-mortem examination on the man’s body was not done yesterday and has been postponed to tomorrow.
The man’s mother Winola Baptiste told Stabroek News yesterday that she had received no information in relation to the shooter, but there are still plans to visit him. On Sunday when the woman spoke with this newspaper she insisted that whoever shot her son should be charged.
Paul was shot by an unidentified man in the vicinity of Alexander Street and North Road after he snatched a chain off the neck of Alana Butcher. Butcher was walking along North Road when she was approached by Paul and asked why she was wearing all that gold and walking alone.
She fought with the man after he snatched her chain and managed to take his jersey off. He ran away, skipped many fences and was shot. He subsequently collapsed on Robb Street in front of the Court Yard Mall and died.
Paul was shot in the back. His family has not denied his involvement in robbery but are adamant than his shooter must be charged.
