Twenty-two-year-old Carl Halley, the Guyana Defence Force soldier who was stabbed in the region of his chest by his partner, is recovering in the male surgical ward of the Georgetown Public Hospital.
The young man’s sister Natasha Corrica told this newspaper yesterday afternoon that her younger brother is experiencing a lot of pain. She said a second x-ray was conducted on him on Sunday evening and he was told by the doctors that he was bleeding internally, close to the wound.
Prior to the incident, Corrica related, the young couple had been experiencing domestic problems. She said she was told that her brother was his partner’s Meadow Bank home on Sunday morning and he answered her cellular phone, while she went on an errand to a nearby shop. The person on the other end was a man, she claimed and when the woman returned home an argument ensued. It apparently escalated and Halley was stabbed.
Noting that the outcome could have been worse, Corrica said that her brother’s partner had stabbed him early last month during an argument.
She said she spoke to the couple on a number of occasions prior to the incident and even urged them to go their separate ways since they had been experiencing domestic problems since meeting each other last August while being enlisted by the army.
She also informed that the young lady is in the early stages of pregnancy and has been close to the family.
As regards his condition the injured man’s family is hoping for the best. And notwithstanding the incident, another family member said, they still care for the man’s partner but would prefer if the two were just friends.
The injured rank remains in a stable condition at the public hospital while his partner is in police custody.
