TAUNTON, England, CMC – West Indies Women gained a timely boost of confidence ahead of the ICC Women’s World Twenty20 Championship, when they rolled over Pakistan Women by 26 runs in a weather-affected warm-up match yesterday.

West Indies Women required solid batting from veteran Pamela Lavine, as well as a 50-run stand for the fourth wicket between Deandra Dottin and Stacy-Ann King to post 114 for four off 13 overs in the match at King’s College.

Anisa Mohammed then took two wickets for 17 runs from three overs, as the West Indies Women then bowled steadily to restrict Pakistan Women to 88 for six from their allocation of 14 overs.

Choosing to bat, the West Indies Women suffered an early setback, when Stefanie Taylor was stumped for six in the fourth over off Sana Mir.

Lavine lashed four boundaries in 35 from 27 balls to give the West Indies Women early momentum before she and Juliana Nero fell within two balls of each other to leave their side 51 for three in the 10th over.

King joined Dottin and they propelled West Indies Women with a merciless, 22-ball assault on the Pakistan Women’s bowling that carried their side over the 100-run hump.

Dottin smashed five fours and one six in the top score of 37 not out from 12 balls, and King collected five fours in 23 from 13 balls, as the West Indies Women’s innings gained late momentum.

Taylor gave West Indies Women an early scalp, when she removed Niza Sadiq for two in the second over, but the Pakistan Women were really wobbling when they lost three wickets for 13 runs in the space of 14 balls to crash to 39 for four in the eighth over.

The West Indies Women’s bowlers maintained their control, and the Pakistan Women never recovered.

West Indies Women open the Championship on Thursday, when they face South Africa in their opening match at the County Ground.
