A taxi driver was on Monday remanded to prison after appearing at the Vreed-en-Hoop Magistrate’s Court charged with unlawful possession of a grenade.
Shane Simon of Meten-meer-Zorg, West Coast Demerara pleaded not guilty to the charge and was remanded to prison by Magistrate Fazil Azeez. It is alleged that on June 6, at Meten-meer-Zorg, he had the grenade in his possession without lawful authority. A police source had said that the man had told investigators that he had found the grenade in a canefield at Uitvlugt and he took it home.
Simon will return to court on June 26.
