Monar Educational Institute, St. Sidwell’s, St. Pius, St. Agnes and Smith’s Memorial Primary Schools all advanced to the semi-final round of the AL Sports 12th annual Schools Windball Championships yesterday at the National Gymnasium.
St. Agnes was victorious over North Georgetown Primary School; Smith’s Memorial defeated St. Andrews; St. Pius outdid St. Stephens while Monar Educational Institute and St. Sidwell’s played to a tie with both teams advancing to the semis.
Batting first, St. Sidwell’s got up to a mammoth total of 105 with a sterling contribution of 75 from Donald Europe.
In reply, Marlon Ford (40) and Ackiem DeSouza (26) played major roles in getting their team up to the total.
With the combined batting ability of David Edinboro (35*) and Christopher Caddie (27) St. Agnes was able to reach the target of 79 set by North Georgetown who batted first and ended on 78-3.
Edinboro, along with teammates Dexter Helson and Shaquille Bazil grabbed one wicket apiece for St. Agnes while Devon Crandon and Daron Marks each picked up 2 – 15 for the opposition.
St. Pius restricted opponents St. Stephens to 71 – 4 with Marvin Carter leading the way with 3 – 9.
Marlon Alleyne and Naresh Samaroo contributed 27 and 26 runs respectively.
Troy Carrington and Gavin Lynch were joint top scorers for their team with 15 runs each while Samaroo rocked St. Stephens’ batting line up by grabbing 4 – 24.
Meanwhile, LaSalle Fraser, in a terrific all round performance made a belligerent 79 in his team’s innings of 100-4 and then grabbed 2 – 35 but his efforts were unable to save his team from defeat.
He was supported with the ball by Javid Haniff who took 3-19 but Smith’s Memorial managed to get past the target with Elijah Marks (36) and Titus Collins (16) leading the way.
The action continues tomorrow at the National Gymnasium with matches in both the boys and girls category.
