Cabinet Secretary Dr Roger Luncheon yesterday announced that cabinet has granted its “no objection” to three awards, including one which is vital for the holding of local government elections.
According to Dr Luncheon, Cabinet has okayed the spending of $233.4 million towards the purchase of new national identification cards and a system upgrade.
Cabinet has also agreed to set aside $15.8 million towards the rehabilitation of the Cheddi Jagan Dental Centre in Georgetown.
Another award that will see the construction of the access road and the installation of the cover material and gas vents to cell number 2 at the Mandela dump site has also been given the support of Cabinet.
This project falls under the Georgetown Solid Waste Management Programme and its value is $56.7 million.
Cabinet gave its “no objection” to these projects when it met on Tuesday.
