An 18-year-old, accused of attempting to strangle and rob a taxi driver, was remanded to prison when he appeared before the Christiansburg Magistrate’s Court yesterday.
Kevon Seon Henry, who gave his address as Apartment 11, Lot 1717 Princes Street Georgetown, was not required to plead to the charge of attempting to commit a felony when it was read to him by Magistrate Ann McLennan.
It is alleged that on Monday at Old England, Region Ten the youth attempted to rob taxi driver David Smith who he hired from Georgetown to transport him to the location.
Reports are that on reaching his destination, around 12.10 pm on the day in question, Henry allegedly pulled out a handkerchief, placed it around the neck of the driver and attempted to strangle him. The driver struggled with the accused and managed to overpower him. Smith then bound the youth and took him to the Mc Kenzie Police Station where he was arrested and taken into custody.
Police Prosecutor, Inspector Steven Telford, yesterday requested that bail not be granted to the accused given the serious nature of the offence and the fact that Henry has no fixed place of abode. Telford further pointed out that the act was premeditated.
Magistrate McLennan subsequently refused bail. Henry next appears in court on July 7.
