Dear Editor,
Last week we were advised by SN that Lady Guymine, female calypsonian, had passed away, and your article unfolded most of her accomplishments together with praise for her contribution.
I cannot recall if the story originated from Stabroek News but it reminded me of a quotation, “Give me the roses whilst I live.” Lady Guymine was no doubt an icon in the male-dominated calypso world. She held her own both at home and in Trinidad, not forgetting the ballads which she also sang. It is regrettable and sad that this cultural diva was not the recipient of any national award.
To sing praises now to her deaf ears is an opportunity lost.
Yours faithfully,
V.O. Patrick
